Tracilyn Hobson is an attorney turned health coach who helps women over 50 lose weight using lifestyle interventions and techniques. After years of struggling with her weight and being frustrated with fad food trends and yo-yo dieting, she created and implemented a program to help women over 50 lose weight sustainably - without giving up wine and chocolate! She believes all women have the power to achieve their health and wellness goals, given the right tools and support. She lives in the beautiful and charming coastal town of Wilmington, North Carolina.
I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life. I have an hourglass figure, which was great in high school. But since then, my curves have been a bit too generous. I’ve tried every “diet” and food trend out there - often losing weight, only to gain it (and more) back. At some point in my 40s, I gave up. I told myself I was just one of those people with a slow metabolism and me being “fit” was not possible. I ate whatever I wanted, as much as I wanted, and, of course, my weight crept up. I was in denial and pretended it wasn’t an issue - even though the extra pounds had very real adverse impacts on my quality of life. I shied away from photos, from intimacy, from physical and social activities with family and friends…I was becoming a bit of a hermit.
Then, a few years ago, I went on vacation with my family. My dad took a photo of the two of us in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. I was shocked and appalled at my appearance in the picture and, as soon as I was alone, I wept. I couldn’t believe how much weight I had gained. I thought that was my rock bottom moment - but I was wrong. When I got home, I went back to being in denial and hiding from the world, safely ensconced in my house, behind my computer screen. Rock bottom came a few months later, when I went into the hospital for an outpatient surgery. Of course, they took my vitals, including my weight. When I saw the number in writing, I was absolutely stunned. Disgusted. Embarrassed. Ashamed. Upset. Frustrated.
SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE. The frustration and shame turned to anger, and I was DAMN DETERMINED to do something about it. What I learned was the solution was not another diet; that there wasn’t anything wrong with me - I WAS capable of losing weight; and that I already had everything I needed to transform my body and my life. I embarked on a weight loss and fitness journey and have not looked back. I lost 50+ pounds, after the age of 50 and gained the energy and confidence to get my life back. I’m rocking my 50s and plan to keep rockin’ my 60s, 70s, and beyond!
